Opening Doors, One Story at a Time
The countdown is on.
Later this month, I’ll be joining a group of professionals, students, and community leaders for ACAP Boston—the Accelerated Career Awareness Program, hosted by NABA INC Boston Chapter, powered by NABA INC., and supported by KPMG US.
This program is close to my heart.
I grew up in Haiti with little exposure to the accounting profession.
I didn’t know what a CPA was.
There were no neighborhood CFOs—or dinner conversations about audits, IPOs, or stock options.
I stumbled into accounting through a work-study job at the University of Ottawa, where I worked in operational accounting and supported audits. That was the spark. And from there, I built a career that have opened so many doors.
But it all started with exposure.
That’s why I care so deeply about building the accounting pipeline—and making sure the next generation knows what’s possible.
Because here’s the truth:
We need more accountants. More finance leaders. More representation in the rooms where decisions are made.
Accounting isn’t just about numbers—it’s a pathway to understanding how businesses work, how strategies are shaped, and how futures are built.
ACAP gives students that early window in.
It’s a full week of workshops, corporate visits, mentorship, and real conversations with professionals across accounting, business, tech, entrepreneurship, and more.
For many students, it’s their first time:
Meeting someone in finance who looks like them
Visiting a corporate office
Asking career questions in a space that feels safe and supportive
And those moments matter. They can shift a student’s perspective—and set them on a path they didn’t know was available.
I’m proud to support this year’s ACAP cohort and to share my story in the hopes that it inspires someone to explore a career in accounting or finance.
If you’ve ever had a moment where someone opened a door for you, or helped you see yourself in a new light, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
Let’s keep building the pipeline—and widening the path.
