From Haiti to Canada: Where My Story Started
Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
Canada is where I started building my balance sheet — professionally and personally.
After leaving Haiti, Canada gave me a solid foundation:
📚 My education
🧾 My CPA
💼 My first jobs
🏡 My first community
But what made me fall in love with Canada wasn’t just the opportunities — it was the hospitality.
The open doors. The quiet warmth.
The fact that I didn’t have to explain who I was or where I came from.
I always felt I belonged.
I always felt accepted — like I could go anywhere, become anyone, dream big without asking permission.
It’s in Canada that I recorded the earliest emotional assets of adulthood — friendships that compound over time, mentors who invested in me, and family who continue to be my strongest support system.
Though I now live in the U.S. and proudly carry both American and Haitian identities, Canada will always feel like home.
Because this is where I first became aware of who I was.
Where I learned to balance where I came from with where I was going.
Where I realized I didn’t have to choose — I could belong to three places and be whole in all of them.
And this year feels extra special because… I’m in Ottawa!
Spending the day with my daughters and my family, walking Parliament Hill, soaking up the energy, and looking forward to tonight’s fireworks. A full-circle moment. A high-return celebration.🎉
To everyone celebrating today: may your day be filled with joy, reflection, and a sense of home — wherever you are.
Thank you, Canada 🇨🇦 — for being one of the best investments I’ve ever made.
